Licensed Tourist Guides Ready for European Capital of Culture 2025 and Local Region: Soča Valley Welcomes 5 New Guides

40 new tourist guides for the Goriška region, including 4 licenced tourist guides from Soča Valley (Posočje), will strengthen the tourist offer of the area. In autumn 2024, the Public Institute for Tourism in Nova Gorica and the Vipava Valley successfully completed training for 40 new tourist guides, including four guides from Posočje: Marko Klavora, Katja Kragelj Jug, Maja Ivančič and Jure Vižintin. With the obtained license new tourist guides will enter in the register of tourist guides for the area of ​​the Goriška region.

In Slovenia, the Tourism and Hospitality Chamber of Slovenia also provides training for tourist guides. This certification allows individuals to operate as guides not only throughout Slovenia but also within the EU/EEA. In 2024, Marjeta Albinini from the Soča Valley successfully completed this national-level qualification.

With the upcoming European Capital of Culture 2025, which will be held in Gorica and Nova Gorica (GO2025), the newly acquired team of guides will play a key role in presenting the rich history, culture, natural beauty and attractions of the western Slovenian region. “We will need guides very much in 2025, as we expect a large number of tourists,” pointed out Mayor of city Nova Gorica Samo Turel at final ceremony. At the same time he emphasized that tourism knows no borders.

The new licenced tourist guides from Soča Valley are an important step forward in strengthening the local tourist offer. With their rich knowledge of natural attractions, historical points and culture, they will help to present Posočje to visitors in a more comprehensive and professional manner. During the training conducted by the Palladio agency the guides were trained for various forms of guiding.

The mayor of Renče-Vogrsko, Tarik Žigon, emphasized another important aspect of guiding: “Many times, the locals don’t even realize how valuable the environment is around us. When we present it to strangers, we see their excitement. This could also inspire us to appreciate our environment even more.” The new guides will therefore have the opportunity not only to attract foreign visitors, but also to encourage locals to rediscover the beauty of their native places. “

The Soča Valley, as a key part of the Slovenian tourist map, strengthens its offer with new licensed guides and prepares the foundations for even more successful tourism development in the coming years.
