Caving adventure into the world of Soča Valley underground secrets
Make your way through mysterious corridors of Dante's Cave with guided caving
Caving in Dante's Cave is an unforgetable adventure! Did you know that the Julian Alps in the Soča Valley harbour remarkable secrets? Caving in general in the Soča Valley is world famous. The mountains in the valley boast numerous record-breaking cave systems with the largest vertical caves in the world near Bovec (up to 1.505 meters depth) and the biggest cave system in Slovenia near Tolmin town (spans 43 kilometres). Dante's Cave is one of caves in the region in Triglav National Park. Dante's Cave is named after the Italian poet Dante Alighieri, who allegedly visited these places.
This cave is not open for public viewing, such as the nearby natural attraction Tolminska Korita. You can only get on an excursion to Zadlaška (Dantejeva) jama by prior arrangement, accompanied by a speleologist. This place is of interest primarily to cave explorers. And also to those for whom the underground world is not galleries with beautiful lighting and comfortable steps. This is knowledge of the world as it is, without human intervention. A guided visit to the wild Dante’s Cave offers authentic caving experience where you will feel as real spelunker. Spelunking here is with no electricity and no artificial paths. A visit is suitable for anyone fit enough to climb here and there to make your way through its mysterious corridors.
And where are exactly record-breaking cave systems in terms of depth, length, and extent in the Soča Valley? Read more in Tour overview. Check available dates for caving to join us. From November to April, the cave is closed to visitors in order to preserve nature and protect the animals that live in the cave in winter.

The mount Migovec wild cave system located in the Municipality of Tolmin in Triglav National Park, close to Tolmin Gorges is the biggest cave system in Slovenia.
- Dante's Cave takes its name from the Italian poet Dante Alighieri, who is believed to have visited this area.
- Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy was partly created in what is now Friuli Venezia Giulia and the Soča Valley, once under the Patriarch of Aquileia. After his exile from Florence, Dante traveled through northern Italian cities and likely stayed at Duino Castle near Trieste. It's believed he also visited Tolmin, hosted by Patriarch Pagano Della Torre. Evidence of Dante’s presence in the region includes a codex held in Venice’s Marciana Library, created in Izola, Slovenia.
